A Dozen Living Roses

 Featured Song

the roses told me...

from
cdbabyblossoms

 It's a poem... it's a collection of songs... it's a picture book.

near a mountain stream

on the path to the garden of blossoms

one morning in the sunlight

i heard whispering.

the roses told me

tho plant my heart's wish

unconditionally

sooner or later, love will be greater

peace, be still.

This month's featured songs are Holy Week "hits". If you open the featured song page to play in the background while you read this, you can be sunk deep into the tones of Pange Lingua before you even get to the end of the letter... and in a perfect reflective mood.

Pange Lingua

Pange Lingua Gloriosi Proelium Certaminis by Venantius Fortunatus, has been a traditional Holy Thursday hymn since the 6th century. It is from Cello and Piano Sanctuary, this month's featured album, which is a best-seller at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral, and is often played for those walking their famous labrynth.

My Father's House

We just finished a brand-new recording of My Father's House. The song comes from a musical I wrote in 1979 called Follow That Star.  Historically, it's one of people's favorites of all the songs I've ever written. This is the first time this version has been recorded, and it features tenor Andrew Bennett and 'cellist Michael Fitzpatrick, www.michaelfitzpatrick.com . If you want to perform the song for a service this week, or at any time, sheet music is now available on Scribd.

NEW WORLD MUSIC PROJECTS

Clarinetist Alethea Lamb and I have continued jamming in the after flow of two wonderful concerts at Peace Labyrinth Gardens (see ychausseblanche channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/ychausseblanche ) We will keep you posted of forthcoming performances and releases. Looking forward to tasty additions of world percussion and strings...stay tuned!

Keep in Touch!

Let's keep in touch!Who do you know who is celebrating Holy Week? Please forward this to them to share the gift of music.

Peace,

Merrill Collins

This Monday is Martin Luther King day, and all over the country, people will be doing community service and celebrating human rights, one of my favorite things to teach, and one of the most important things for us all to understand.
Every Man, Woman, and Child

every living soulI performed this song for the United Nations in 1987 on Human Rights Day, as a way for a community to learn about human rights together. This song is part of the We Agree Curriculum, and provides a very engaging method for studying the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in great detail. Participants (4th grade and up) are assigned articles of the document to research and present. As the song is played, each performer approaches the microphone and declares one of the thirty articles. The lyrics are sung by the whole group, with hand motions and everything!

respectThe project workbook has several other ways to create and educate about this wonderful document, as well, from creating Public Service Announcements to performing a silent spiral ceremony. These are wonderful activities for church groups, Drama, Social Studies and Music teachers at all levels, and any group who wants to participate in a Martin Luther King Oratorical Contest. Please pass this on to anyone you think who might be interested. Forward this message to a friend
our human rights
But you don't have to take on the whole project to enjoy the song!

This month, our featured song page includes not one but TWO versions of the EMWC, with vocals by a wonderful mother/son duo, Michelle and Harrison Crenshaw. Make sure you click this link to start the second song after the first one ends. The CHANT version comes with free sheet music for a capella groups.

Keep in Touch!

Let's keep in touch!I've been making lots of new friends on Facebook lately! We can keep in touch with you in whatever way that works, whether you prefer this email newsletter, automatic blog postings, Facebook, or MySpace. We're always hoping for good reviews on iTunesCDBaby, Scribd, YouTube, and Amazon, so if you're online and my music comes up on your playlist and lifts your spirit, pass it on.
